ALCTS TECHNOLOGY COMMITTEE: Technical Services 2.0

Social software such as wikis, blogs, RSS feeds, instant messaging and social bookmarking are proving themselves on the public services side of libraries. This well attended program explored their application in Technical Services. Rick Lugg, R2 Consulting, LLC was the moderator.

Panelists:

Matt Barnes, R2 Consulting, LLC (slides), presented an overview of Web 2.0 and Library 2.0 technologies and implications for Technical Services.

Beth Picknally-Camden, Director, Technical Services at the University of Pennsylvania (link), described PennTags, an academic social bookmarking tool.

Elizabeth Winter, Electronic Resources Coordinator, Acquisitions at Georgia Institute of Technology (slides), described several 2.0 initiatives, a Journals Wiki shared between Collection Development and Acquisitions, use of IM, and use of Google collaborative spreadsheet software.
